Tropical and subtropical woodland birds and neighbouring semi-open fields with larger trees. Typically establish in fruit trees at mid-upper stages, often in small groups. Easily defined by pinkish base for billing across eyes. The females have a dark brownish head in most places, but the females have a light gray head and back in West Mexico. A wet quacking or farting sound is the distinctive call.
